Remember that You're Going to Heaven!

Remember that You're Going to Heaven! - Christ.net.au

Most assuredly I tell you, he who hears my word, and believes him who sent me, has eternal life, and doesn't come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life. John 5:24

Before I was a Christian, I used to think that someone who believed they were going to heaven would just be happy all the time. Since, what would there really be to be worried or concerned about, if that was true?

Since becoming a Christian, of course, I've noticed that I'm not always 100% happy all of the time. And that this is true of many, if not most Christians. I think that what happens is we forget to think about how good heaven is going to be, and think more about the immediate concerns of life on Earth that are in front of us at any moment.

And then, we start to value those less-than-perfect things that are directly in front of us more than we value heaven itself. And think about them more.

Think More About Heaven

It seems that the solution to this is to spend more time thinking about heaven, what it will be like, and how amazingly good it will be.

I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth have passed away, and the sea is no more. I saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready like a bride adorned for her husband.

I heard a loud voice out of heaven saying, "Behold, God's dwelling is with people, and he will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away from them every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; neither will there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, any more. The first things have passed away."

He who sits on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." He said, "Write, for these words of God are faithful and true."

He said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give freely to him who is thirsty from the spring of the water of life. He who overcomes, I will give him these things. I will be his God, and he will be my son."

Some things I'm going to try, and write about, are collecting images that remind me about heaven, and just thinking about it more.

For our citizenship is in heaven, from where we also wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; who will change the body of our humiliation to be conformed to the body of his glory, according to the working by which he is able even to subject all things to himself.

What Will Heaven be Like?

I don't think our limited, mortal human minds can really imagine how good heaven will be. Often heaven is represented by pictures of fluffy white clouds. Which don't always seem to me like the most amazing experience imaginable.

Perhaps the best way to imagine heaven is to think back over your life of all the things you've most enjoyed, most desired, and most wanted. Think of the best, most exciting, and most pleasureable things you can imagine. Really stop now for a minute and try that...

I think heaven will be even better than that. Most likely, it will be unimaginably better.

If you're in right relationship with God though Jesus Christ, that's what you can look forward to...
