Spiritually Transmitted Disease
Although some methods of contraception can protect you from Sexually Transmitted Disease, they can't do a thing to protect you from Spiritually Transmitted Disease.
Flee sexual immorality! "Every sin that a man does is outside the body," but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.
The Bible tells us that our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, powers, and spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places (Ephesians 6:12). I've found that one of the best (if not the best) ways to avoid sexual immorality is to think about this. And think about the dark powers which lie behind the things that God warns us against. And to think about how every temporary, cheap thrill I experienced was an open invitation to these dark forces to come into my life.
Last year (in 2018) when I started Bible college, I bought several books on spiritual warfare which explained these things in great detail. Since then, whenever I see something I used to struggle with in terms of purity, I think of the demonic power behind it. That is, whenever I see something I might lust after, in a non-biblical way, I think of actual demons being present in that experience of enticement, waiting for me to give them the green light.
At first, a lot of the time it was easy to forget about all that — and I very often caught myself thinking the way I used to. But the more I kept on reminding myself of the dark powers I'm wrestling with when this happens, the easier it got. Now, my day-to-day thoughts are a lot different to how they used to be. And purity is no longer a big struggle.
Thinking of concepts like the one above helps to remind me of the existence of these "spiritual hosts of wickedness", lying in wait for me, unseen, behind the things the unbelieving world trained me to lust after.
